Discover the art of improv in a high-energy, creative, and collaborative class with Sean Roach and Chris Roberts of TBD Improv. It introduces adults to the fundamentals of spontaneous performance, through fast-paced and playful games. Students will sharpen their listening skills, build characters, and create comedy on the spot.

    Thursdays, 5:30–7:15 PM

    Ages 18+

    February 12–April 9

    (No class on 2/26, 3/19, and 3/26)

    The final class of the course, on April 9, will be a private three-hour block with students from both sessions coming together to perform for each other.

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

  • SEAN ROACH

    Sean is the founder, artistic director, and host of TBD Improv, as well as a company member. He earned a degree in fine arts at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and studied theater at Temple University. His days are now filled with painting Martha’s Vineyard waves and landscapes, which can be seen at the Louisa Gould Gallery in Vineyard Haven. Sean has performed as an actor in theater and on television. He was the host and co-producer of two TV shows, The Sunny Side Up Show and Noodle and Doodle, which have aired on Sprout, NBC, and networks all over the world. His love of improv began in 2006 when he became a member of Comedy Sportz Philadelphia, an award-winning improvisational comedy troupe. He moved to Martha’s Vineyard in August of 2017, with his actor-wife and two actor-children.

  • CHRIS ROBERTS

    Chris is an original member of TBD Improv and co-director of the Martha's Vineyard Children's Theater Camp. During the school year, he teaches in the special-education department at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and coaches for the West Tisbury Girls Basketball program. Chris has appeared in numerous productions with Circuit Arts, including A Christmas Carol. He holds an MFA from Columbia University and a BFA from Southern Methodist University, and has performed internationally, in New York City, and regionally in productions ranging from classical to contemporary. Chris and his wife, Elle Lash, have lived on Martha’s Vineyard for nearly two decades. He is the proud father of a son and a daughter, along with an old scruffy dog, a maniacal orange cat, and five chickens.
